Quick rundown to decontamination

ree

What is decontamination?

Decontamination is the process of removing bonded particles from the surface of your vehicle. The particles can be in the form of tar, Iron deposits, tree sap and/or any other industrial or natural contaminant that cannot be removed through a normal safe wash process.

Decontamination process comprises of two categories:

Chemical decontamination, a process that involves using chemicals to dissolve and remove contaminants from the surface.

Before the decontamination process, we recommend doing the minimum of a safe wash to prepare the surface for the chemicals.

We personally like to start with a tar and glue treatment, larger tar spots can mask iron deposits that may be under the larger tar deposits. so spraying your dedicated tar and glue onto the vehicle, leave it to dwell this will dissolve the tar deposits from the surface, if you need to agitate you can use a clean microfibre to do so, remember watch the sun, do not let the product dry!

Once you are happy you can move on to the next chemical stage. "Fallout" this stage will remove iron deposits in your clear coat as well as stubborn break dust, BE SURE NOT TO USE IN DIRECT SUN LIGHT AND HAVE YOUR PRESSURE WASHER TO HAND TO KEEP A LIGHT MIST OF WATER KEEPING THE SURFACE...MOIST. Spray your dedicated fallout remover onto the surface, you will need much less than you think because we can stretch this product by spreading it which will also double up as agitating again getting you the most out of the product.

You can repeat the chemical stage(s) as many times as you want to.

Pro tip, give the vehicle a blanket of snow foam and rinse in-between chemical decon steps this will neutralise and remove any left over chemicals.

Physical decontamination, a clay bar or clay mitt treatment to remove bonded contaminants in the clear coat. This process will require the use of a quick detailer to act as lubrication, this will help reduce any damage you may inflict into the clear coat, some clay bars only require water so be sure to check what's best for your dedicated clay. When claying you may think pressure is your friend...you may think the harder you push the more contaminants you're going to remove, but this is NOT the case. Keep the movement short, light and relatively fast remembering to keep the surface lubricated this will keep the heat out of the paint surface due to the friction. Clay in straight lines and never in circles. Pro tip keep folding the clay in on itself, this will trap the dirt in the clay keeping the clay as clean as possible. IF YOU DROP THE CLAY THROW IT STRAIGHT IN THE BIN.

The decontamination process can be one of the most destructive things you can do to your clear coat so please be careful, a clay treatment should only be done to prepare the vehicle for machine polishing.
